Yesterday I was enjoying an oh-so-warm cup of lavender and camomile tea. It’s been pretty cold here in this lovely California climate with the arrival of fall. There’s nothing like a warm cup of tea or coffee to warm your insides if you know what I mean. Especially since sometimes my toes get soooo cold, even with three pairs of socks on, that the only way I can get them warm is to take a streaming hot bath! Coming from a girl who grew up in the mountains (I mean I wore skirts in the winter!), you’d think I would be used to the cold. Haaa. Not anymore I guess. But I digress.
On to why wer’e here.
So on this tea I was drinking, the company writes quotes on their tea tags and I saw that the tag said, “Happiness is an accomplishment.”
I’m like, “what!”
I’m guessing this was supposed to be wise words of inspiration. Um, no…not this time. The tea company clearly missed the mark.
This quote really caught me off-guard. You know stuck a thorn in my side.
So much so, that I asked my husband what his opinion of the quote was and then ranted on to him about it for like 15 minutes.
Something about the way it was said did not ring true to me.
Why?
happiness is YOUR birthright
When I hear the word “accomplishment,” to me this sounds like something you have to work hard for.
Something you have to hustle for. Sweat for. Pray for. Strive for. Something you have to wait for.
Something that you want that may never come to be realized…
*Happiness is not something you should have to work for at all. The state of happiness is your actually your default state.
If I was the tea tag writer
If I were the creator of the quotes on the tea bag, I would say, “Mastering your mind is an accomplishment.” or, “Happiness is a choice.”
The truth is, you fall away from happiness because of your paradigms. Your beliefs and thoughts about yourself, your circumstances, and your environment create the state of your inner world. If something doesn’t match up to how you think it should be, it can create discord and affect your internal state.
Everything is mental.
Let’s read that again so it really sinks in.
Everything is mental.
The way that we perceive things in life affects our thoughts, which create our feelings, which create our reality. The amazing thing is, happiness is a state you can choose at any time.

Your happiness is up to you. You can choose to be happy at any given time you wish. Even if a situation is not ideal. It is how you look at it that makes all the difference.
It’s not an accomplishment to be happy. It’s an accomplishment to master your mind so you can return to the state of happiness, that you were innately born with.
Are you allowing happiness to be your default state as much as possible? If not, how can you allow more happiness within? Why not journal on it or let me know your thoughts below.
